Skiing holidays can be expensive, especially if you're bringing the family.

A ski holiday doesn’t have to break the bank. With a little forward planning and the right choices, it’s possible to enjoy more time on the snow while making your budget stretch further. From finding the best-value passes and accommodation to booking equipment and activities in advance, there are plenty of ways to get more from your winter escape. Whether you’re planning a family trip, a weekend getaway or a longer ski adventure, discover our top tips for skiing more and spending less.

Airport Transfers in Verbier

If you're travelling independently, booking an airport transfer is one of the easiest ways to reach the resort. Private transfers offer door-to-door service and can be excellent value for families and groups. If you book a private transfer, you'll find some companies will even arrange a supermarket stop en route if requested in advance, allowing you to stock up before reaching the more expensive mountain shops. If you choose to hire a car instead, compare prices carefully and ensure it is fully equipped for winter mountain driving.

Good value accommodation

Verbier offers accommodation for every budget, from privately rented chalets and apartments to hotels and catered chalets. Booking direct or through French property agencies can often save money, while hotels may offer flexible stay lengths. However, package holidays from tour operators can be excellent value, often including flights, transfers, accommodation, lift passes and ski hire. For budget-conscious travellers, late deals and some holiday packages can include accommodation, meals, equipment, lift pass and instruction, which are well worth considering.

Ski Hire in Verbier

If you're not bringing your own gear, you will need to hire skis, a snowboard and/or boots. Prices can vary massively according to demand, quality of equipment and location. Sometimes you can get a good package deal from your holiday or accommodation provider, however, the best deals are usually found online when you book in advance.

Ski Schools in Verbier

For the best availability with the ski schools aim to ski in mid-January or mid-March, snow conditions are often excellent, and resorts are quieter. These quieter weeks are also an ideal time to book private or group lessons, as instructors have greater availability and children aren't filling most of the lesson slots. The week after New Year is often the cheapest of the season. If you're restricted to school holidays, Easter is usually more affordable and less crowded than the busy February half-term period.

Ski passes are an essential but potentially expensive element of every ski holiday, and it's worth noting when the lift passes go on sale (usually mid-November) and making sure you take advantage of any early-bird offers the lift companies are doing to entice advance sales. Some ski schools will include your pass in your booking, so it's wise to check with them if you'll need one.
