Verbier Sports centre destroyed by fire
Huge blaze and gas explosions
A huge fire started at Verbier sports centre on Friday afternoon, which has left the building in ruins.
The fire was initially reported in the early afternoon, quickly taking hold of the building, creating huge palls of smoke.
As it spread, several large explosions were heard as gas cylinders succumbed to the intense heat.
Three fire brigades were drafted in from surrounding towns to help local firefighters get the fire under control, which they managed to achieve by late afternoon.
Thankfully no-one was hurt in the fire.
The cause of the fire is at this stage unknown and an investigation has been launched by the public prosecutor.
