But we're not talking about lift-assisted, downhill skiing and snowboarding only – there's a whole host of activities that involve boards strapped onto your feet including ski touring and split boarding, cross-country skiing and télémarking. The four valleys mountains are the perfect setting to go snowshoeing and husky dog sledging.

Many people would argue that it's actually mountain biking that's the number one activity in Verbier. The four valleys' trails and bike parks attract hundreds of enduro and downhill biking aficionados every summer. Culture and guided tours in Verbier

Verbier has plenty to offer if you’re keen to explore the local culture. Fitness and swimming in Verbier

If you’re looking to keep active off the slopes, Verbier has a well-equipped public gym along with regular fitness and yoga classes at the main sports centre. Swimming is also easy to fit in, with both indoor and outdoor options available year-round. Many hotels and chalets have pools, but you can also use the local public swimming pools, which are often included with your lift pass.

Flying in Verbier

Flying in Verbier is an unforgettable way to take in the views. You can go paragliding in summer or winter, soaring high above the resort with an experienced pilot. For something more dramatic, try a panoramic helicopter tour or even a tandem skydive from 4,000 metres, with stunning views over the Val de Bagnes and beyond. Verbier has two golf courses - one 18-hole course at Les Esserts (1,600m altitude) and another 18-hole course at Les Moulins, which is open May to November.

There’s plenty to do indoors in Verbier, whether you’re taking a break from skiing or waiting out the weather. You can head to the sports centre for a workout, have a go on the indoor climbing wall or unwind with a relaxing spa session. If you fancy a bit of retail therapy, there are plenty of shops to explore and the local cinema often shows films in English – just look out for VOST screenings.

There is a large bowling alley, arcade, laser games, indoor games and huge indoor kids' park about 30 minutes away in Martigny.

Mountain-biking & Fat-biking in Verbier

Verbier has an impressive bike park with north shore and downhill tracks, as well as a great many enduro and cross country trails for you to explore. 

The variety of terrain ensures that everyone, from beginners to expert and pro-level downhill and freeride riders, can get many days riding on trails suited to their preferences and ability level. E-bikes and family friendly riding is also possible here.

Snow and ice activities in Verbier

If you're looking for fun on snow and ice away from the ski slopes, Verbier has plenty to offer. You can take control of your own husky sled through snowy forest trails, go ice go karting with specially adapted karts or try the region’s longest sledge run from Savolyeres to La Tzoumaz. Snowshoeing is another great way to explore the area, either with a guide or on your own with a trail map. These activities are a great way to make the most of the mountains, whether you're skiing or not.

Verbier has three clay courts that you can book to play on in summer. 

There is a tennis club which you can join, and an advanced tennis camp for children designed to be a combination of mental and physical training.

You can play squash on one of two courts in the main sports centre in Verbier, year round.
