On Saturday 24th August, 30 Verbier residents and their support team will be setting off on a 5 day mission to cycle to St Tropez.

The idea came about thanks to the organisers, Neil Aherne and Louise Beer, wanting to keep fit and bring new sporting ventures and events to the Verbier community. After settling on St Tropez as an appropriate end destination, the route planning began and the invites to join in went out to the local community. The event was opened up to anyone intereseted in the challenge, some of whom had spent little or no time on a bike before the training began.

It's going to be a tough challenge for all involved, with over 7,600m of climbing over the 5 days. Here's what their Route Plan looks like:

  • Day 1: Verbier to Megeve - 92km
  • Day 2: Megeve to Chamrousse - 142km
  • Day 3: Chamrousse to Gap - 108km
  • Day 4: Gap to Castellane - 139km
  • Day 5: Castellane to St Tropez - 105km

Local businesses are not only taking part in the event, but have also pledged their support and sponsorship to make the event possible. Thanks to Guy at La Ruinette Cafe & Apartments for letting us know about this incredible challenge.

I'm sure you'll join us in wishing the team all the best in their epic adventure. If you want to follow what's going on, you can find them on facebook, twitter, or take a look at their website.
