Every year, when the lifts open, I rush excitedly to the top of the hill, strap into my board and set off for the first run of the new season. The cold, clear air in my nose and the sun on my cheeks I can't keep the smile off my face as the fresh snow creaks under my board. The whole day lies ahead from first lifts to last call. Or it would if I wasn't sweating, panting and massaging the cramp out of my calves at the end of the first run.

Most of the last weeks has been cloudy and snowy, we're not complaining mind you as it has been dropping snow here in Verbier like it's going out of fashion. The clouds did break breifly this week though and we had an amazing day on the hill riding some great snow and enjoying the stunning views of a snow covered Verbier.
A great week here in Verbier with clear skies and cold temperatures, fresh snow and empty pistes. Perfect.
A new weather system is moving in over Verbier and the forecast is excellent. Almost a metre of new snow is predicted to fall on the upper slopes!! The different sectors of the Verbier area are starting to open up too and it won't be long before we see the whole area open for skiers and snowboarders. At the moment the off piste is still a little too rocky to be safe and the high winds we have seen here have meant that some significant wind slabs have been forming so there is a risk of avalanches.

Happy Valentines from Verbier!! We have had a real mix of weather this week with snow falls and blues skies. There is some great piste skiing to be had and also some excellent powder. Take care in the off piste, although the avalanche hazard rating was only 2/5 this week there have been some accidents and even some fatalities.
The weather changed this week and brought us some fresh new snow, mild temperatures and some clouds. Depending on where you are skiing, there's either clear skies or pea soup but the pistes aren't too busy if you avoid the bottlenecks.
Mixed skies today in Verbier but great snow and quiet pistes make the conditions on and off piste pretty good. It is VERY cold higher up though but this just means that the snow is going to stay fresh and as there is more on the way things are looking good here in Verbier.
We have had very sunny weather this week in Verbier with Spring-like conditions. The slopes are getting soft and slushy by the afternoon and although the avalanche hazard rating is only 2/5 the sun is causing some instability.

It's been clear and sunny for most of this week in Verbier and with a small snow fall last weekend the pistes are in great condition, especially in the mornings. By the afternoons some of the steeper runs can get a bit busy and this can cause some patches of hard, icy snow to show through.
After last weekends snowfall we have had some great skiing both on and off piste. Although the snow is returning to a Spring-like state.

The ten centimetres of snow that fell at the weekend put a nice fresh layer on what is a very deep early season snow pack. Conditions both on and off piste are superb here in Verbier and we have bee enjoying some great powder days lately. The forecast is for more snow, champagne and fireworks at New Year so all-in-all things are looking pretty great here.
We haven't seen the usual snowfalls that kick off the season here in Verbier, or anywhere in the Alps for that matter. The snow cannons have been working hard and the little bit of natural snow that has come down has been preserved by the clear skies and cold temperatures up high. A few runs opened this weekend but the official area opening is not until the 3rd Dec. The snow that there is is not bad but we definitely need a good couple of dumps before we can enjoy all that Verbier has to offer.
The sun has returned here in Verbier and we have had very Spring like conditions. Although the pistes can get busy as the day goes on the slopes are not too crowded and early in the morning and during lunch they are actually very quiet. The lifts are all running again after the Medran 1 was fixed meaning that getting onto the slopes is a much easier affair once again.

The busy holiday period is almost over and the conditions have held up well under the busiest week of the season. The snowy, wintery weather has blown away and the sun has come out in Verbier. On the lower pistes this is meaning we have almost Spring-like conditions.
The clouds moved in and promised us almost half a metre but only 7 cm or so fell. The snow is pretty wet and heavy but when the sun comes back outand the temperatures drop we should have some good skiing and boarding on our hands.
The new year started with a bang; a big party in town followed by clear skies and great snow. Since then we have seen some new snow, some clouds and more great days on the hill and in a repeat of last week there's more snow coming! Keep it up 2012!
Although the weather is horrible in Verbier at the moment the snow is incredible!! There has been so much snow falling this week that we are riding powder all the time. As soon as the sun comes back, and it is forecast to return on Sunday and Wednesday, the conditions are going to be out of this world with deep, fresh powder.
The sun has come out here in Verbier and we have plenty of snow and cold conditions. Only the Lac de Vaux run is open at the moment but when the rest of the pistes are secured they should open up too. The snow is good, with forty centimetres of fresh snow sitting on the hill.
The snow that came down at the beginning of the week has freshened everything up nicely and more winter-like conditions have returned to the valley. Colder temperatures and firmer pistes have made a very welcome come back. The avalanche risk is fairly low too; 2/5. Most of the off piste itineraries are pretty badly bumped up now though so there isn't much of a reason to go out into the off piste.
Although we haven't had any new snow for nearly two weeks the low temperatures have kept the pistes in excellent condition and we have even found some powder a little of the beaten track.
What a way to start the week with a Monday morning run run down the Mont Gele! Thanks to Faction skis for this video.
Now that the mad holiday period is over things on the pistes have quietened down here in Verbier. We have got great cover though across the whole 4 Valleys and with short lift waits and quiet slopes now is the time to book a last minute ski break.
The sun is shining here in Verbier but there is still no new snow. there is plenty to do though still with ice driving and parapenting topping our list of Valentine's day gifts for those who like a bit of excitement.
The weather continues to be a mixture of sunshine, snowfalls, clear skies and fog. It really is all over the place but when the sun came out today the skiing was great and if you were up early enough there was even some powder to be had.
This last week the weather has been quite mixed, with everything from sun and snow to clouds and rain. Although the rain that fell below Ruinettes has degraded the pistes a lot the quality of snow in all the open areas is excellent.

The pistes are in superb condition right now and the forecast is for a bit more snow which will help to top up the off piste, which is chopped up and compacted in some places.
The warm spring-time weather is softening up the pistes here in Switzerland and although this is great for the sunbathing in places is it damaging the pistes. That said there is good cover throughout the Verbier area.

After a week of snow, clouds and generally moody weather, conditions finally improved, giving the Verbier area some super powder all the way down to the valleys.
After a sunny start to the week the flat light and clouds have returned for a couple of days. By the beginning of the weekend it is forecast to be sunny again and with a top up of fresh snow covering over the ice and quiet pistes, conditions are very good.

A real mixture of weather this week that has led to white out conditions and summer days here in Verbier. The little snow that has fallen probably wont make too much difference to the lower pistes and certainly wont open any of the closed ones but it should freshen up the higher runs in the Mont Fort sector.
The weather has taken a good turn this last few days with sunshine arriving to keep the new snow company. The pistes and mountains should be busy this weekend as the good weather and snow lures in the weekenders.
Sun, high temperatures and blue skies continue to prevail in Verbier providing fantastic conditions to enjoy the mountains.

As we move towards the last days of this winter the snow remains despite the beautiful warm and sunny weather we have been enjoying over the last week. Guess that's what happens when you have had one of the snowiest winters in the last decade?
Spring like conditions provided the backdrop to a great day.Although the pistes and lifts are busier now due to February crowds there was still plenty of quieter areas.
The clouds moved in at the beginning of the week but unfortunately we only had a light dusting of snow rather than the 10cm we were forecast. That said the pistes are still holding up very well but we are going to need a proper dump if we're going to get any off piste skiing this month.
Apologies for the late arrival of this week's report. Thankfully it has nothing to do with Icelandic Volcanoes and everything to do with internet connections.
After a snowfall of up to 30cms on Tuesday, sunshine, cold temperatures and light winds have provided excellent conditions. Due to the fantastic cover both on and off piste throughout the 4 Vallees crowds have not been too much of a problem as there is a lot of space.

The lifts across the Alps close this Sunday and, with a few exceptions, the winter season finishes. What a winter it’s been though!
The resort does not open fully for another week, but Lac de Vaux has been open every weekend since the start of November although very high temperatures melted most of the snow in Verbier and the surrounding low mountains last week.
Snow has arrived in force, just in time for the holiday period and expected crowds. Strong winds have kept many of the higher lifts shut, lowered the temperatures significantly and created dangerous off piste conditions.
After the bitterly cold temperatures of the last few weeks there has finally been a rise up to around minus 5 degrees which is still cold enough to keep the pistes in great condition.
After a few days of sunshine and perfect weather snow has returned to Verbier. The weather forecast is all over the place at the moment and is constantly incorrect so the best advice is to go up the mountain and have a good time as there is good cover throughout the area and plenty of tree lined runs for flat light days.

Even though it looked cloudy from my window this morning I still went up the hill and managed to find some sun early on. By the afternoon a warm Foen wind had arrived and brought in lots of clouds.
Now that september has arrived the surrounding mountains have quietened down a lot. The weather has also improved quite a bit but by the start of next week it looks as if some more unstable weather is on its way.

The snow cover isn't bad given the minimal snow fall that we've had recently in Verbier but the runs are quite uneven and some of the ground below is poking through the snow. We're looking forward to a snow storm this week which will hopefully bring us cold temperatures and lots of fresh new snow. Fingers crossed.
With all this snow in Verbier we are starting to think more and more about the winter and al the excitement it brings.
This week's favourite video is from Xtreme Sports Ski Boutique and one of their long time clients Dan, ripping it up in the back country.. enjoy!
