Verbier is looking every bit a mid winter resort this week. The village is properly snow covered and the high alpine terrain above Attelas and Mont Fort is holding a deep, settled base. There has been a steady flow of visitors for half term, but the mountain feels in good shape and conditions are consistent across much of the 4 Vallées. Underfoot the snow is firm first thing, softening slightly where it catches the sun, and overall the season is sitting comfortably above average for this point in February.
Snow and Weather Summary
Current snow depths are around 95 cm in the village at 1500 metres and between 210 and 260 cm on the upper slopes around Mont Fort at 3300 metres. Over the past week Verbier has seen around 15 to 25 cm of fresh snowfall above 2200 metres, with slightly lighter accumulations lower down. This has refreshed the surface on marked runs and improved coverage in frequently skied off piste areas.
Temperatures have remained cold. In resort, daytime highs have hovered around minus 2 degrees, dropping to minus 9 degrees overnight. At altitude it has been colder still, between minus 12 and minus 6 degrees. The freezing level has generally stayed below 1800 metres, helping preserve the snow quality. Winds have been moderate to strong at times on exposed ridges, particularly around Mont Fort, but lift operations have been largely stable.
A more significant system is forecast to arrive late Friday into Saturday, with current projections suggesting 30 to 45 cm of new snow above 2500 metres and 20 to 30 cm at village level. This anticipated snow dump should give the entire area a noticeable refresh and improve conditions further across the higher north facing slopes.
