Snow Report, 17 March 2026

Imprint
By Nye Erskine, Updated

Verbier moves into mid March with a solid snow base still covering the mountain, particularly across its higher and north facing terrain. The resort has a slightly more relaxed feel now, but the slopes remain in good condition and well used. From the high alpine routes off Mont Fort to the cruising pistes above La Chaux, there is still plenty of strong skiing on offer as spring begins to edge in.

Snow and Weather Summary

Snow depths are currently around 60 to 80 cm at resort level near 1500 metres, with between 170 and 220 cm on the upper slopes above 2500 metres. The highest terrain around Mont Fort at 3330 metres continues to hold the most reliable snowpack. A light recent snowfall of around 5 cm has refreshed the upper mountain, helping to maintain coverage on exposed areas.

Temperatures have ranged from minus 9 to minus 3 degrees on the upper slopes and between minus 1 and plus 7 degrees in the resort depending on sunshine. The freezing level has been moving between roughly 2000 and 2400 metres during the day before dropping overnight, allowing pistes to refreeze and hold their structure. Winds have been mostly light to moderate, though occasionally stronger on the highest peaks.

Skiing conditions are best above 2200 metres where the snow remains firm and consistent for most of the day. The higher sectors around Mont Fort, Attelas and Col des Gentianes are holding particularly well. Lower runs back towards Verbier and Le Châble soften more noticeably in the afternoon, especially on sunnier aspects, but are still enjoyable earlier in the day.

Outlook & What’s On

The outlook for the coming days suggests a mix of sunshine and passing cloud with temperatures gradually rising as the week progresses. There is a slight chance of light snowfall on the highest slopes later in the week, although any accumulation is expected to be modest. Overnight cooling should continue to support piste conditions, especially at higher elevations.

Verbier continues to offer a lively programme of events through March including après ski gatherings, live music and a range of activities organised by the resort. With fewer crowds and longer daylight hours, it is a great time to explore the full 4 Vallées area and enjoy a more relaxed pace on the mountain.

Weather outlook as of: 17 March 2026. As I am sure you are aware, accurately forecasting weather more than two or three days ahead in the mountains is notoriously tricky. If there is a significant change we will update this section before the next full weekly snow report.

Snow Takeaway

Verbier is skiing best on its higher slopes above 2200 metres where the snow remains most consistent, particularly around Mont Fort and Attelas. Lower runs are best tackled earlier in the day before softening in the afternoon. With a solid base still in place at altitude, the resort continues to offer good late season conditions.
