It is beginning to look and feel very wintry again in Verbier. Snow has settled beautifully across the peaks and the early season really is shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory. After several snowy November weekends, the resort has already enjoyed an early taste of skiing and there is a real sense of excitement building for the full opening this weekend.
Verbier opens fully on 7 December, and Santa will be making several appearances on the slopes, keeping the festive spirit alive from day one.
Snow and Weather Summary
The past week has continued to deliver excellent early season conditions in Verbier. Snow depths remain impressive for the first days of December, with a solid base at altitude and consistent cold helping to preserve it. After another round of snowfall during the week, the higher slopes are in very good shape and the pistes are looking smooth and fresh.
The latest forecasts suggest the chance of light snow flurries through the weekend with cold temperatures returning in the evenings. Freezing levels have stayed low, sitting between 1200 and 1500 metres, and are expected to drop again as the weekend arrives. Nighttime temperatures could fall close to minus ten at altitude, which will help maintain snow quality on the upper slopes. Lower down the mountain there may still be some thin spots, so early season caution is recommended off the marked pistes.
Overall the picture is very encouraging. Verbier has now seen several weeks of steady snowfall and this is being described locally as one of the strongest early starts in over a decade.
