Verbier has a crisp and confident winter feel this week, with cold mornings in the village and clear views stretching across the surrounding Valais peaks. The mountains look well set up at altitude, while lower slopes show the usual early January contrast between shaded and sunnier terrain. The season feels properly underway now, with reliable access to the main areas and conditions that reward skiers who know where to look as the day develops.
Snow and Weather Summary
Snow depths in Verbier are currently around 40 to 60cm in resort, increasing to approximately 170 to 220cm across the upper slopes. There has been only light snowfall over the past week, mostly refreshing the surface higher up rather than adding significant depth lower down. Temperatures have remained cold, with freezing levels generally sitting below 1100m and daytime highs in resort hovering close to zero. Winds have been light to moderate, occasionally more noticeable on exposed ridgelines but rarely affecting lift operations for long. Skiing conditions are best above mid mountain where the snow stays cold and chalky, particularly on north facing slopes. Lower runs are firm early in the day and soften slightly during sunnier afternoons, especially on south facing pistes.
