Snow Report, 9 March 2026

By Nye Erskine, Updated

Verbier continues into March with the mountains above the resort still carrying a strong winter coat. The slopes rising towards Attelas, Mont Fort and the high ridges of the 4 Valleys remain well covered and the village at 1500 metres still has visible snow across much of the landscape. With the holiday crowds easing, the pistes feel a little quieter while conditions across the wider ski area remain reliable.

Snow and Weather Summary

Current snow depths are around 70 to 90 cm at resort level around 1500 metres, with between 180 and 240 cm reported on the upper slopes above 2500 metres. The highest terrain around Mont Fort at 3330 metres continues to hold the deepest and most dependable base. A light refresh of around 5 to 10 cm has fallen across higher slopes in recent days which has improved the surface on exposed terrain and open faces.

Temperatures have ranged from minus 11 to minus 5 degrees on the upper mountain and between minus 1 and plus 4 degrees in the village depending on sunshine. The freezing level has generally fluctuated between 1600 and 2000 metres during the day and drops overnight which helps maintain the quality of the pistes following grooming. Winds have occasionally been moderate around Mont Fort and the highest lifts but conditions across most of the ski area have remained stable.

On piste, the best conditions are found above 2200 metres where the snow remains firm and consistent for much of the day. North facing slopes around Attelas and the upper Mont Fort sector are holding particularly well and offer reliable skiing from morning to afternoon. Lower runs back towards Verbier ski best earlier in the day before softening slightly during sunnier periods.

Outlook & What’s On

The forecast for the coming days suggests a mixture of sunshine and passing cloud with the possibility of light snowfall at higher elevations later in the week. Freezing levels are expected to fluctuate slightly but overnight cooling should continue to help preserve the snowpack. Any fresh snowfall would mainly enhance the higher slopes where coverage is already strongest.

Verbier remains lively during early March with regular village events, live music and mountain activities taking place throughout the week. With the peak holiday crowds now behind, the slopes feel more relaxed while the resort atmosphere continues to be energetic.

Weather outlook as of: 9 March 2026. As I am sure you are aware, accurately forecasting weather more than two or three days ahead in the mountains is notoriously tricky. If there is a significant change we will update this section before the next full weekly snow report.

Snow Takeaway

Verbier is skiing best above 2200 metres where snow depth and surface quality remain strongest, particularly across the Attelas and Mont Fort sectors. Early runs on lower pistes back towards the village will offer the most consistent conditions before any afternoon softening. With a solid base at altitude, conditions across the 4 Valleys remain dependable as March progresses.
